	Indenture of release made on 3 August 1610 between George Maulthouse of
Galgagh als. Galghey, yeoman, of the one part and Francis Wells of the same
town of the other part. Sir John Mallory of Stubley, knight, and William
Mallory, esquire, son and heir apparent of Sir John by their indenture of 15
September 1609 granted, bargained and sold to George Maulthouse (amongst
other things) half of one close of meadow called Little Inges and Francis
Wells, lying within the fields of Galgagh als. Galghey which said half
close is now in the tenure or occupation of George Maulthouse. To have and
to hold the same (amongst other things) to George Maulthouse forever to be
held of the King as of his Manor of Eastgrenewich in the county of Kente by
fealty only in free and common socage and not in chief or by knight's
service under a yearly rent or fee farm to the Lord King. Now, George
Maulthouse, in consideration of £20 paid to him by Francis Wells, has
granted, bargained and sold to Francis Wells the said half close called the
Lytle Inges within the Lordship of Galgagh als. Galghey with all
appurtenances whatsoever thereto belonging. To have and to hold the said
premises to Francis Wells forever to be held of the Lord King as of his
Manor of Eastgreenewich in the county of Kente by fealty only in free and
common socage and not in chief nor by knight's service, paying yearly
forever to George Maulthouse 20d. yearly.

		1640-1 Richard Mawtus (Maultass)

		
		    He owned a Burgage on the east side of the Market-
place, which in 1675 belonged to Thomas Craven,
alderman; also a Burgage on the south side of Agnes-
gate. It was used as a brewhouse (Pandoxatorinus)
and stable by Francis Willoughby, of the town of
Nottingham, Esq. At one time it was the property
of Arthur and Richard Aldburgh, and in 1675 was in
the possession of Dame Mary Tancred, alias Metham.
    1st Aug., 1643. "Ordered that Richard Mawtus,
Alderman, in respect that he did not make his feast
to the Aldermen, Assitants, and their wives, accord-
ing to the use and custom, as other Mayors have
done in the time of their Mayoraltie, shall pay for the
neglect of the same the sum of fifteen pounds to the
use of the Corporation, to be levied by way of dis-
tress by the sergeant-at-mace, or otherways to be
sued for it in any Court of Record," etc. On the
same day Alderman Thomas Cundall was fined a simi-
lar sum for like neglect.

		NO. 43. RICHARD MAWTUS OF RIPPON IN THE COUNTY
OF YORKE INHOLDER.

		
		    G 178, p. 417. REPORT.--His Delinquency that unaduisedly
in December 1642 the enemy hauinge then the power in the place
where he liued, he was drawne to supply those fforces with a
horse and man, which was imployed against the Parliamte, he
neuer liued from his owne howse and hath bin nowe in the
Parliamts Quarters euer sithence that Countye was reduced
which is all his offence and haueinge himselfe to the
Comtee there before the first of December last and soe to com-
pound at a tenth.
    Hee hath taken the Naconall Couenant the 28th of March
1646 and the Negative oath the 4th of Aprill 1646.
    That he compounds upon a perticuler deliuered in under his
hand by which he doth submitt to such ffine &c. and by which
it doth appeare,
    That he is seized in ffee to him and his heires in possession
of and in two messuages or Tents and 7 acres of Land lyinge
and being in Rippon in the County of Yorke of the cleere
yeerly value before theis troubles 7li for which his ffine is 14li.
    That he is possessed of Goods and Chattells to the value of
20li for which his ffine is 2li.
        His whole ffine is 16li.

		    G 178, p. 419  PETITION.--That yor peticoner unadvisedly
the ffower & twentith day of September 1642 did find a man &
Armes to Collonell Mallory who was then at Rippon on the
Kings side for wch he is hartely sorry, and the said Collonell
psently marched away wth them into the Kings Quarters for wch
delinquency his land & estate is sequestered but yor peticoner
alwaies kept at home & paid the Taxacons assessed by the
Parliamt & ffree Quarter.
